Diese Woche, vom 23. bis 28. April findet zum zweiten mal die Ubuntu Open Week statt.

An dieser kann man per IRC teilnehmen. Die englische Sprache sollte man allerdings ein wenig beherrschen, da natürlich da alles auf Englisch abläuft. Hier kann man mit den „Machern“ dieser Distribution in Kontakt treten. Mit Kernelentwicklern, MOTUs und sogar mit dem Chef persönlich: Mark Shuttleworth.

An zwei Tagen findet diesmal das Thema „Ask Mark“ statt. Man hat hier die Möglichkeit Mark Shuttleworth eine Frage zu stellen, welche live beantwortet wird, wenn man Glück hat und die Frage gestellt wird. Und so eine Stunde kann sehr schnell vorbei bei sein. 😉 Am Dienstag, also gestern, war es das erstemal soweit. Und meine Frage wurde auch gestellt. Hier meine Frage und Marks Antwort:

<sabdfl> before mass consumer sales, we will see targeted niche markets
<sabdfl> so, for example, right now workstations are a Linux-heavy market
<sabdfl> i think there are some other specific markets that can be targeted
<sabdfl> in emerging markets, for example, price is a huge driver
<sabdfl> so we see people in brazil, china, africa etc being genuinely interested in linux
<sabdfl> not just in linux-before-priated-windows
<sabdfl> s/priated/pirated/
<sabdfl> and in the west, people have said very loudly they want it, we just need to figure out how to reach JUST those folks, and not accidental windows users
<sabdfl> sorry, windows users who accidentally buy linux
